Small employers and SHOP registered agents and brokers in SHIP Early Access states can now go to HealthCare.gov and take the first steps towards offering SHOP coverage, before online enrollment begins on November 15, 2014.  The five SHOP Early Access states are Delaware, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, and Ohio.

Missouri, Illinois to get early access to small business health insurance marketplace

Missouri and Illinois will be two of five states to get an early look at the federal health insurance marketplace for small businesses, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Wednesday.

Businesses with fewer than 50 full-time workers in the five states will be able to access the Small Business Health Options Program, or SHOP, in late October, ahead of the start of open enrollment on Nov. 15.

Yesterday Michigan Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI-8) and Georgia Representative John Barrow (D-GA-12), introduced H.R. 2328, a bill to remove broker compensation from the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) calculation. This legislation would stop the MLR regulation issued under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) from causing carriers to reduce the commissions of agents and brokers which has led to a reduction in consumer access to crucial services provided by insurance producers on a daily basis.
